Equifax Inc. announced on September 7th a cybersecurity incident potentially impacting approximately 143 million U.S. consumers. Criminals exploited a U.S. website application vulnerability to gain access to social security numbers, birth dates, addresses and driver’s license numbers between mid-May through July, 2017. Equifax has found no evidence of unauthorized activity on Equifax’s core consumer or commercial credit reporting databases.

Peoples is aware of the Equifax breach and will continue to monitor the situation. No customer data from Peoples Bank has been compromised.

For questions and concerns, Equifax has setup: www.equifaxsecurity2017.com. The website:

  • Verifies if your information may have been compromised*
  • Provides links to free Identity Theft Protection and Credit File Monitoring

Note: The website may be slow or have some delays due to the large volume of people accessing it.

*To verify if your information may be compromised, you will enter your last name and last six digits of your social security number (SSN). The website is secure and does not collect the full SSN.
